12 Ways of Giving, Day 11 — Through a Child’s Eyes

A child’s diagnosis of autism can be devastating for a family in many ways. Winstanley Partners Project Manager Carrol Patin has seen the high level of stress experienced by friends who are parents of autistic children.
“I saw how difficult caring for an autistic child was for them. Everyday life could be a struggle for them at times,” Carrol said. “I could see how emotionally demanding it was for them.”
Carrol took an opportunity to volunteer his time helping a small chapter of the Autism Society of America in his hometown of Lafayette, La. Just the small gesture of providing graphics work for various chapter activities made a big difference for the chapter and the families it supports.
Caring for a child with autism presents many challenges. Local chapters provide parents with much needed support, encouragement, and information. To learn more about the Autism Society of America, visit http://www.autism-society.org
