12 Ways of Giving, Day 9 — Do You Hear What I Hear?

Crowds fill The Underground Cafe in Feeding Hills, Mass. every Friday night to hear new musicians test their skills. Now, WP COO Ron Thompson can be seen hauling an amp or slinging coffee to patrons as one of The Underground’s newest volunteers.
Ron Thompson’s children have flown away from the nest and on to college, leaving him and his wife with some new-found time to fill.
Recently, the Winstanley Partners Chief Operating Officer learned of a fairly new Christian music radio station, The Q 99.7, established in 2006 and based in Feeding Hills, Mass. It’s broadcast mainly in the metro Springfield, Mass. and northern Connecticut areas including towns like Enfield (Conn.), Agawam, and Westfield.

“I really enjoy the music,” Ron said. And after learning more about the small, non-profit, independent station, “I wanted to help make sure it can stay on the air; that it succeeds.”

So, thinking about his new-found free time, he decided recently that volunteering with ‘The Q’ made perfect sense. He loves music. He’s Christian. He’s got the time to dedicate.
And in the spirit of the season, Ron began volunteering some time at the Underground Café, a part of The Q 99.7, just this month.

Every Friday night, the café features local musicians and bands that are eager to get out to the public their name and sound. Teams of volunteers run much of the evening, helping with the sound equipment for musicians, security, and hospitality, including serving coffee and other goodies to patrons from the Q Coffee Bar.

“I have the time to dedicate now,” Ron said, “So I’m helping out this great organization.”
