Artists Kathy Winstanley and Kristin Emerson showcase watercolors, photographs, and oil paintings
Throughout June the Lenox Library Association will host a free art show of work by Emerson and Winstanley in the Welles Gallery titled, “Nature’s Silent Events.” Watercolors, photography, and oil paintings will be on display to the public Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Calling attention to the silent drama of our natural environment, two artists – Kathryn Winstanley of Lenox and Kristin Emerson of Duxbury, Mass. – employ various techniques and media to expose hidden beauty. Friends since childhood, the artists reunite in scenic Lenox, Massachusetts to display the moments in nature that they have recreated in their respective artistic mediums.
Winstanley explains that “Nature’s Silent Events” captures the moments that escape our notice in the bustle of everyday life. Both artists hail from Concord, Mass., and often reunite in Berkshire County with a shared appreciation for nature’s “quiet power.”
“I see beauty in the fact that only I bear witness to these moments, and may then go paint them,” says Winstanley, who often visits the banks of the Housatonic River in Lenox to draw inspiration. “For me, they are both solitary and magnificent.”
An artist’s reception will be held in the Welles Gallery on July 11th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Artists will be in attendance, and wine and cheese will be offered. Winstanley will also be present at the gallery on Sundays throughout the show to meet with the public and answer any questions about the work.
