What are you doing with your extra day?

Well, it’s leap day. February is hanging around an extra 24 hours and someone who’s been on Earth 84 years is telling his friends he’s finally old enough to drink.

The earth orbits the sun every 365.242 days. What are doing today to celebrate?

We rounded up all the leap day facts and figures — including a recipe for a Leap Year cocktail. This one was created at London’s Savoy Hotel for a Leap Day party in 1928:
2 ounces gin
1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
1/4 ounce
fresh lemon juice
1 lemon twist for garnish

Also — did you know the odds of being born on leap day is 1 in 1461, which means that in a world of 6,653,591,021 people (U.S. Census Bureau), there are about 4,554,135 leap day babies? And back in stricter times, leap day was apparently the one day women could propose marriage without being scoffed at?

And lastly, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums would like us all to know that 2008, a “leap” year, is also the Year of the Frog. (Get it?) It’s all part of an effort to promote amphibian conservation. So if you see a frog today, kiss it.
